Groups for Adults
Temple Emanuel is proud to offer a wide range of opportunities for congregants to connect with each other and strengthen their bonds to our Jewish community. One great opportunity for our congregants is joining a group here at the temple. Our "big three" groups are Brotherhood, Sisterhood, and Mavens. All adult members are welcome to join Brotherhood and Sisterhood, while Mavens is for adults over 55.
Brotherhood
The Temple Emanuel Brotherhood provides easy and direct paths for male involvement in Temple Life. Temple Emanuel’s Brotherhood provides many opportunities to become involved in Temple life and to form warm friendships. We strive to help our community, both within and beyond the Temple.
A service and social arm of the Temple, the Brotherhood supports all aspects of temple life. Membership is open to all Temple men; each is encouraged to join. Meetings are held monthly, and all members are welcome to attend.
We help our Temple by:
- Leading an annual Brotherhood Shabbat service
- Ushering for Shabbat and High Holiday services
- Assembling and taking down the temple sukkah
- Planning Outings like Hockey Night with the Thunderbirds
- Hosting Latkepalooza to raise money for Religious School programming

Sisterhood
Temple Emanuel’s Sisterhood is a vital branch of our synagogue community.
We are a social-fundraising organization that, in addition to forming friendships and connections, helps financially support Youth Education at TE by contributing funds to the temple’s Religious School and Preschool. We also have developed a Youth Education Scholarship Program that offers needed financial assistance to children who wish to attend Religious School trips and/or Jewish camps during the year. As a member of Sisterhood, you are also eligible to join our Sisterhood Book Club, which always welcomes new members and readers! Our Book Club has been an integral part of Sisterhood for over 35 years.
Membership is open to all temple females; each is encouraged to join. To learn more, contact the Temple office or reach out to Donna Stern, Sisterhood President.
We help our temple by:
- Fundraising through annual dues, our soup sale, Judaica gift shop sales, and New Year’s Greeting Card
- Hosting the temple-wide Break the Fast after Yom Kippur
- Coordinating Oneg Shabbat providers throughout the year
- Honoring requests as needed for special events and programs for Temple Emanuel
- Contributing to temple renovation and improvements
- Encouraging youth by presenting b’nei mitzvah gifts and contributions to the Religious School and Preschool
- Supporting Jewish programs by offering need-based scholarships to temple members or BBYO families
- Having a Sisterhood bazaar during the annual Hanukkah celebration
- Providing hamantaschen each year for the temple Purim celebration along with a fun, interactive annual bake-off

Mavens
The Mavens of Temple Emanuel is a Jewish organization reaching out to seniors who enjoy associating with other 55+adults. We meet on the second Thursday of each month at noon in the Temple Emanuel social hall. We meet in-person and members bring their own lunches. Volunteers provide beverages, fruits, and delicious desserts. If you’re at least 55 years old, enjoy socializing, and would like to participate in interesting programs, we invite you to join us.
Monthly programs might include:
- Speakers and panel discussions
- Musical programs, singalongs, and concerts
- Field trips and excursions
- Jewish learning programs
- Chair yoga and exercise
- Health seminars
- Holiday celebrations
- Fun and fellowship!
