Lifelong Learning (Adult Education)

Do not say, When I have free time I will study, for perhaps you will never have free time.  Rabbi Hillel (Pirkei Avot 2:4)

Who is wise? The one who learns from everyone.  (Pirkei Avot: 4:1)

The Lifelong Learning Committee promotes Jewish learning for adults. This is accomplished through an exciting mix of classes, events and workshops which provide knowledge and inspiration.

Teaching and learning, guiding and studying: These are integral to Judaism, essential to the life of a Jew.

According to our tradition, God is “HaM’lamed Torah, the One Who teaches Torah. Moses is “Rabbeinu, our teacher.” Learning is not confined to any particular stage of life but is an ongoing process to be pursued throughout one’s life. This is the core belief behind Lifelong Learning at Temple Emanuel.

Our mission is to provide all congregants opportunities for connecting to the 3,000-year tradition of Jewish learning, exploring what it means to be a Jew in the 21st century, heightening personal spirituality and confronting the self-imposed limitations that prevent us from fully inhabiting our Jewishness. Members of all ages are welcome and encouraged to join us.

For more information about Lifelong Learning at Temple Emanuel, please contact Mike Backfield, Lifelong Learning chair, or Hilary Goldberg, Engagement & Programming Coordinator, with any questions or with your ideas for programs you would like to see and participate in.
