Covid-19 Update, as of August 25, 2021.

The Temple Emanuel COVID-19 Recovery Task Force consults with immunologist Dr. Steve Mizel and other medical professionals to develop our safety measures in response to COVID-19. Please note the following: We have reinstated mask-wearing at all temple events, inside the Education Building and administrative offices, and at all outdoor events when children are present. At Services, we welcome an unlimited number of fully-vaccinated Temple Emanuel members and visitors, but please be aware that physical distancing is required indoors. In some cases, you may be asked to sign in before a Service or event for contact tracing purposes; however, pre-registration for Services is no longer required. You will still be able to join us virtuall on LiveStream.

COVID-19 Recovery Task Force Update—August 10, 2021

Based on current Forsyth County metrics, we have made the following recommendations:

  1. Registration for Services or Events is no longer required.
  2. Fully vaccinated members will be asked to sign in for Services or Events, providing your last vaccination date.
  3. Fully vaccinated guests are invited. Upon signing in, in addition to your last vaccination date, we will ask for an email address for contact tracing purposes, if the need arises.
  4. There will be no limit on the number of attendees.
  5. The pool noodles on the pews will be removed. People can sit wherever they would like with their friends, i.e. no Physical Distancing requirements.
  6. Due to the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19, we ask that all congregants continue to wear their masks at all Services and Events, even outdoors.
  7. We will continue with the “ToGoNegs” – an individually, pre-packaged snack to take home following Services.
  8. High Holy Day Planning:
    1. Adults (18 and older) will need to be vaccinated to attend services.
    2. Children under the age of 17 who are not vaccinated and/or not eligible for the vaccine will need to wear a mask.
    3. We will provide “ToGoBags” for both the Rosh HaShanah Night Oneg and Sisterhood Break the Fast.

We continue to strike the balance between our desire to gather and the safety of our sacred community. We strongly encourage everyone who has not been vaccinated to do so, including children 12 years and older.

The accumulating clinical evidence supports the view that the Delta variant of COVID-19 has the potential to cause illness in a group of vaccinated individuals who have chronic respiratory or cardiovascular disease. We encourage vaccinated temple members with such conditions to speak with their doctor about attending Temple Emanuel activities. Effective August 13, 2021, masks are required for all temple Services and Events, even those outside. All staff and visitors in the Education Building are required to wear a mask, effective immediately.

Dr. Steve Mizel writes: “It is extremely important for temple members to understand that reinstating masks at services and other temple events is not ‘a step backward,’ but rather an appropriate response to current conditions and scientific evidence related to COVID-19 transmission in our community. Changes in our guidelines are expected as the situation ebbs and flows. Indeed, an uptick in vaccinations by individuals who were previously ‘on the fence’ about vaccination will result in a diminished risk environment in our community and thus the reason for reinstating mask-free attendance at temple services and events. The Temple Emanuel COVID Recovery Task Force remains committed to evidence-based decision-making in a timely and effective manner.”
