Lifelong Learning

Our Lifelong Learning programming at Temple Emanuel is continuously growing and expanding! We are always in the process of creating new experiences for our adult learners, and we have some exciting programs on offer for the upcoming academic year. From the return of popular favorites such as the 92nd Street Y, to a brand new series on the Jewish Diaspora, this year of Lifelong Learning has something for everyone!

Literature of the Jewish Immigration Experience

This series, taught by Courtney Anthony, will explore some of the literature that grew out of the immigration of Jews from Europe to the United States, including works by Bernard Malamud, Avrom Reyzen, Anzia Yezierska, and others. Meets at Temple Emanuel.

Temple Emanuel Literary Society
Jews and Judaism in English Literature

This series, taught by Courtney Anthony, will focus on the ways – good, bad, and ugly – that Jews have been portrayed in texts from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, including works by Chaucer, Marlowe, Shakespeare, Scott, Dickens, and Joyce. Meets at Temple Emanuel.

The Jewish Diaspora Experience
Join us for this three-part series exploring some of the rich Jewish cultural traditions that have grown out of the Diaspora, from music to art to food! Meets at Temple Emanuel.

Hit the Road with Temple Emanuel

We are offering two exciting travel experiences in spring and summer 2018! These trips are open to all Temple Emanuel members:  singles, couples, and families welcome!

Day Trip to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello
Did you know that Thomas Jefferson’s home and great architectural achievement, Monticello, was purchased after his death and preserved for the American people by the Jewish Levy family? This day trip will be preceded by a two-part educational program on Jefferson and the Levy family. Join us for either or both evenings of learning, the day trip, or all of the above!

  • Travel Prep:  Jefferson, the Levy Family, and Religious Freedom
    Tuesdays, March 27 & April 3, 6:30-8:00 PM
    Meets at Temple Emanuel.
  • Travel to Monticello:  Sunday, April 8, 2018
    Enjoy round-trip travel in a comfortable motor coach, meals with your Temple Emanuel Friends, and a guided tour of Monticello!

Friday, June 15 – Sunday, June 17, 2018
Would you love to experience Jewish New York, but don’t know where to start? Don’t want to plan your own itinerary? Don’t want to travel on your own? We’ve got you covered! Join us for three days of the best New York City has to offer, including the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, Ellis Island, Katz’s Deli, a Broadway show, and more!
