The Moore Food Pantry is a cooperative effort between Temple Emanuel, Highland Presbyterian Church, the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC, and Moore Elementary School. The purpose of the pantry is to offer healthy, nutritious food to needy families whose children attend Moore Magnet Elementary School. Families are screened and referred by the school. The number of families has increased significantly. Last school year our average was 20 families per month, and in September and October of 2015 the average has been 36 families. We offer a wide selection of food obtained from the Second Harvest Food Bank, fresh produce from Trader Joe’s, and frozen chicken from the Aldi store.
Volunteer opportunities include staffing the pantry on the second and fourth Tuesday afternoons of each month from 2:00–4:30 p.m. Volunteers assist the parents in signing in, shopping, and carrying the groceries to their cars.
Requested Donations: Canned fruit in natural juice or light syrup and personal items (toilet paper, Kleenex, paper towels, bars of soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes) are needed and collected in a large box in the lobby of the temple’s Education Building.
Donations of money are always appreciated. Checks can be made out to Temple Emanuel with a notation at the bottom of the check specifying the Moore Food Pantry.
